We are a new charity! Back in 2009, local families of disabled children and young people in Swale, Canterbury and Thanet were invited to a variety of consultation days to talk about local services for disabled children. As the process went on, some of the parents and carers put their hands up to volunteer more time to the project, and some of them have now become 4us2’s core trustees.
4us2 is a parent-led charity. This is very important for us: we want to give parents and carers a better say in what services should be on offer, and what needs to be done to improve services. But while the majority of our staff and trustees are parents of disabled children, that doesn’t mean we know it all: we are all only experts in our own children! We need our membership to grow, so that more families can tell us their own experiences and what would help them.
4us2 is currently funded by Kent County Council Disabled Children’s Service.
The website can only be as good as the information on it, so if you know of a service, club, group or school that isn’t mentioned on our site and you think it should be, let us know. This website will be developing all the time, and will be updated very regularly.
You can tell us what you think by using our feedback form, and our membership form is also on this site. The newsletter, published 4 times a year, is here, and of course the events calendar, which includes events, days out and short breaks for disabled children and young people provided by all different groups – not just 4us2.
We can always use more volunteers, and candidates to become trustees are always welcome to come in for a chat!
